The chart below shows the total number of Olympic medals won by twelve different countries.
The bar chart offers a comparison of twelve nations based on their cumulative medal counts at the Olympic Games. Overall, the United States stands out as the most dominant Olympic medal-winning country. Furthermore, there is a noticeable trend across all nations where the distribution of gold, silver, and bronze medals tends to be relatively balanced.
The USA has amassed a remarkable total of approximately 2,300 Olympic medals, including around 900 gold medals, 750 silver medals, and 650 bronze medals. Following closely behind on the all-time medals chart is the Soviet Union, securing just over 1,000 medals. Similarly, this country exhibits a slightly higher count of gold medals in comparison to silver or bronze.
Only four additional nations – namely the UK, France, Germany, and Italy – have achieved the milestone of surpassing 500 Olympic medals, each maintaining similar proportions across all three medal categories. Besides the USA and the Soviet Union, China emerges as the only other nation with a notable disparity, boasting a significantly higher proportion of gold medals, around 200, in contrast to silver and bronze medals, each totaling around 100.
