For example, more Vietnamese workers are opting for delivery services such as Grabfood for lunch, but these meals often come with single-use plastic utensils that cannot decompose in the environment. Secondly, overpopulation is the culprit of increased household waste as it causes a rise in global demands for goods which prompts overproduction, increasing waste. Finally, because fast fashion trends are becoming more prevalent, people are purchasing more clothes, which means old items are being thrown out at an alarming rate.

The level of domestic waste has reached an all-time high in recent years. There are several reasons why this problem has become more widespread, and I believe that corporations and individuals can work together to mitigate the issue.

The increased level of domestic waste can be attributed to several reasons, but our dependence on plastic remains the most dominant culprit. As more and more companies are having to shipped their products worldwide, plastic becomes an appealing option for packaging due to its versatility. Not only are most plastic containers waterproof, making them idea for liquids, but also lightweight, helping to cut down transportation cost. However, plastic can take millions of years to decompose, and other than recycling, we’ve yet to come up with an effective measure to get rid of discarded plastic, which ultimately contribute to our increased waste output. Additionally, targeted advertising has played a key role in fueling consumerism, which has prompted people to purchase more than they need, resulting in excessive waste.

Despite the concurrent issue of domestic waste, steps can be proactively taken by both businesses and individuals to negate its negative effects. Firstly, despite not yet having an alternative to plastic packaging, supermarkets can start charging their patrons for plastic bags instead of giving them out for free. This would encourage shoppers to bring their own reusable bags, leading to fewer plastic bags being thrown away. Secondly, food and beverage companies should adopt biodegradable materials such as paper or cardboard in their packaging, allowing waste to decompose more easily. Finally, consumers should prioritize locally sourced products, especially fruits and vegetables, to reduce the need for transportation and, consequently, the amount of packaging used.

In conclusion, while our reliance on plastic packaging and consumerism have undoubtedly contributed to the rise in domestic waste, measures such as charging for plastic bags, using eco-friendly materials, and choosing locally sourced products can help counteract this issue in the long run.

• Chúng ta ngày càng phải vận chuyển sản phẩm nhiều hơn vì chúng không được sản xuất ở địa phương nữa. Mà khi vận chuyển thì cần thùng carton, túi nhựa để bảo vệ sản phẩm -> tăng rác thải. 
• Quảng cáo đẩy mạnh xu hướng tiêu dùng, tức là người ta thấy quảng cáo thì họ sẽ mua nhiều hơn, đặc biệt là những thứ không cần thiết. Mà lâu ngày không dùng thì sẽ vứt đi. 
• Chúng ta lệ thuộc vào nhựa quá nhiều cho các sản phẩm của mình vì nó rẻ, chống thấm nước, nhẹ, vv. Nhựa thì lại khó phân hủy nên sẽ ở lại trong môi trường trong thời gian dài và điều này vừa khiến rác thải nhiều vừa gây ô nhiễm. 

Hướng giải quyết:

• Siêu thị nên tính tiền túi nylon, thay vì cho miễn phí để khiến nhiều người tự mang theo túi của mình (ở VN mình thì hình như siêu thị Metro có áp dụng cái này) -> sẽ làm giảm rác thải nhựa.
• Các công ty đồ uống nên bắt đầu sử dụng giấy, carton thay cho nhựa để làm ly hay ống hút (có nhiều chuỗi cà phê ở VN cũng bắt đầu làm vậy)
• Nên mua rau củ địa phương nhiều hơn, vì làm vậy sẽ cắt giảm việc vận chuyển, mà không vận chuyển thì ít cần phải bảo vệ sản phẩm -> giảm rác thải nhựa.
