[Opinion] Wealth as a means of helping others

Some people think that the most important thing about being rich is it gives a person the opportunity to help other people. Do you agree or disagree

It is said that having the ability to help others is the most vital aspect of being wealthy. In my opinion, I completely agree that rich people play an indispensable role in helping not only those around them, but also the entire human race. 

For one, it is more likely for the rich to own well-established corporations and businesses, meaning they can provide jobs for many people. By providing employment opportunities, these people are practically helping many families to be able to sustain themselves financially and reducing society’s vices. With a steady stream of income, the destitute are less prone to committing crime, thus making society safer. 

Furthermore, wealthy philanthropists in many countries also provide help for the less fortunate. At times, their aid can be more effective and timely than governmental intervention. For instance, during one of the most catastrophic storms in the highlands of Vietnam, it was the upper class that immediately responded to the locals’ call for help by flying out and helping to rebuild the community. Meanwhile, governmental help came in the form of fundraising, which took several weeks to come into effect. 

At the same time, many billionaires are looking towards the sustainability as well as longevity of mankind. This is because they have the resources to fund research into a field that particularly interests them, and for people like tech mogul Elon Musk, it can mean the future of humankind. To be more specific, one of his life goals is to colonize Mars so as to create an alternative living space for all human beings should the Earth become hostile due to climate change and pollution. This course of action plays an important role in ensuring the security of billions. 

In conclusion, I personally believe that being able to help others is one of the biggest perks of being rich, as was exemplified through the contributions of the upper class not only to their community, but to mankind as a whole.
