The table below provides information about the production capacity of oil by 4 African countries over a period of 4 years. Overall, Congo was the only country that saw a decline in oil production over the period.
To start, Congo took the lead when it comes to the number of oil barrels produced in 2000, at 275,000 barrels for that year, followed by Nigeria at 205,000 barrels. In contrast, Somalia’s oil production was only a fraction of the previous countries, at just 5000 barrels, whereas Chad did not produce any oil in the first 3 years.
Over the next 4 years, oil production in Congo declined sharply, and by 2004, its production dropped by 72,000 barrels. At the top of the chart for this year was Nigeria, whose capacity increased slightly over the years and stood at 213,000 barrels. Despite witnessing a tenfold jump from its original figure, Somalia’s oil production remained one of the lowest alongside Chad, which experienced the most significant growth of all countries.
