Some are of the opinion that urban areas should be facilitated with large space for public use, such as parks and plazas. Personally, I completely agree with the above point of view.
To start, green space can act as a natural air purifier. In detail, the trees and plants in large quantities placed in the middle of urban centers can act as a buffer for air pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide and emitting oxygen. By doing this, parks throughout the city can vastly reduce carbon emission from vehicles and manufacturing facilities. What is more, these areas can counteract the concrete filled landscape of cities, making these population hubs look less dull and soulless. As such, the integration of nature within cities not only brings a positive effect for its inhabitants’ health, but also for its overall design.
At the same time, a dedicated area for public use can provide much needed space for sports and other outdoor activities. It is not uncommon for many to live in flats nowadays, yet not all apartments are equipped with gyms or public plazas. In fact, for developing countries such as Vietnam, these amenities are only found in luxury apartments, meaning the vast majority don’t have access to them. Consequently, many Vietnamese often resort to overcrowded public stadiums or gyms for an afternoon stroll or sport practice. Should city administrators around the world see the importance of community space, their inhabitants would be much better off health-wise.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that more public areas should be made accessible for everyone, especially city dwellers worldwide simply because their effects on the local environment and health is massive.
