[Opinion] Samples – Banning advertisement

Some people think that there should be a complete ban on all forms of advertising. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Partly agree:

Paragraph 1: On the one hand, it is understandable why some forms of advertisement should be prohibited.

Paragraph 2: On the other hand, I don’t believe we should ban all of advertising.

It is believed that all forms of commercial publicity should be thoroughly prohibited. In my opinion, I partly agree with the above notion due to the reasons listed below.

On the one hand, it is undeniable that a selective range of inappropriate adverts should be removed from the community. Firstly, commercials that promote alcohol or cigarettes need to be restricted or completely taken away from the eyes of the public, since they would ultimately prompt youngsters to consume said substances. Thus, limiting liquor or tobacco ads would in turn lower the number of potential drinkers and smokers. Secondly, the utilization of false advertisement should also be halted. A great example of this would be the ubiquitous presence of untested and unregulated alternative medicine promising wonderous results in Vietnam and its surrounding regions. The removal of the these adverts would be essential in eliminating the harmful exposure of these drugs to the local populace.

On the other hand, there are several reasons why advertising should not be prohibited completely. For one, it is a giant industry which takes up a large proportion of many countries’ economies. As such, erasing this industry means millions of lost jobs, which would ultimately cause a hike in unemployment, crippling communities around the world. Furthermore, commercial publicity is a great tool for companies to gain exposure from their existing as well as potential customer base. Thanks to commercials and promotions, consumers know of the most current line of products from their favorite manufacturers. This not only benefits the sales of these goods, but also their patrons, as they are made aware of something that would possibly suit their needs.

All in all, while it is true that improper commercials and false advertisement should be rooted out entirely, I strongly believe that the remaining advertisement sector should be left to thrive as it is, due to the benefits that it brings to both retailers and their customers.

Introduction:

The debate over banning all forms of commercial publicity is ongoing.

Thesis statement: While I partially agree with the notion, certain advertisements should be prohibited due to their negative impacts.

Body 1:

Certain adverts, like those promoting alcohol and cigarettes, should be restricted to prevent influencing youngsters. Eliminating these ads would reduce the number of potential consumers. Additionally, false advertisements, such as untested alternative medicines, should be removed to protect the public from harm.

Body 2:

However, a complete ban on advertising would have adverse economic effects, leading to job loss and economic instability. Advertising also serves as a vital tool for businesses to reach their target audience, informing consumers about new products and benefiting both retailers and customers.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, while inappropriate and false advertisements should be banned, the advertising industry as a whole should be allowed to thrive due to its economic significance and benefits to both businesses and consumers. Balancing restrictions with the industry’s positive aspects is essential for promoting societal well-being.
