[Line Graph] Visits to a Caribbean island

The graph below shows the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.

The graph provides information about visitors to a Caribbean island and their choice of accommodation while there between 2010 and 2017.

Overall, the total number of tourists generally rose over the years. At the same time, remaining on cruise ships became a more popular choice for tourists, especially towards the end of the period.

In 2010, nearly 1 million travelers visited this Caribbean island. Of these, more than 600,000 people chose to stay on the island, while fewer than half stayed on cruise ships. Over the next 3 years, the number of tourists staying ashore remained the same in 2011 before recording an uptick and then leveling off at around 1.5 million tourists in 2013. In contrast, cruise ship figures fluctuated during the same period between 300,000 and half a million.

From 2013 onwards, both categories followed completely different trajectories. In detail, the number of visitors seeking on-island accommodation registered little change from the 2013 level, with the exception of 2016, when a slight decline was recorded. On the other hand, more and more tourists chose to stay aboard cruise ships, and by 2017 this had become the predominant choice for close to 2 million people. In broader terms, the total number of tourists visiting the island increased steadily after 2010 to approximately 3.5 million in 2017.
