[Line Graph] Visits to a Caribbean island

The graph below shows the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.

The graph provides information about visitors to a Caribbean island and their choice of accommodation while there between 2010 to 2017.

Overall, the total number of tourists generally rose over the years. At the same time, remaining on cruise ships became a more popular choice for tourists, especially towards the end of the period.

The total number of tourists to this island increased continually between 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, except for 2015 and 2016, where figures remained relatively stable at just under 3 million.

In 2010, more than 600,000 people chose to stay on the island, while less than half of those remained on their cruise ship. The figure for former choice stayed the same in 2011 before recording an uptick just a year later and leveled off at around 1.5 million tourists in 2013. In contrast, cruise ship figures fluctuated in the same period between 300,000 to half a million.

From 2013 onwards, both choices continued to observe completely different trajectories. In detail, the number of visitors seeking accommodation ashore registered little change from 2013 level, with the exception of 2016, where a slight decline was recorded. However, more and more tourists chose to stay aboard, and by 2017 it was a predominant choice for close to 2 million people.
