The diagram depicts the various stages in the life cycle of a salmon, from birth to maturity.

It is evident that there are six primary stages through which the salmon progresses as it matures from egg to adult. Additionally, the life cycle involves movement through three distinct locations: from the river to the estuary, then to the ocean, and ultimately back upstream.

The life cycle commences as adult salmon lay and incubate their eggs in rivers. Upon hatching, the young salmon spend the initial stage of their lives being nurtured in freshwater environments. Subsequently, during their development, the fish migrate downstream to river estuaries where they continue to mature.

After completing the period of estuary rearing, the maturing salmon embark on a migration to the ocean, where they reach full adulthood. Eventually, these adult fish make the journey back upstream to the spawning areas of rivers, where they reproduce by laying their eggs, thus initiating a new life cycle.
