[Opinion] Sample: Staying at the same job
A counterargument will be used in the following essay:
Some people believe that it is better to stay in the same job all your working life. Do you agree or disagree
Same job:
- More chance of promotions
- Better environment (if the right job) – can create fulfilling relationships with your colleagues.
- Better job security
Jumping jobs:
- Potentially higher pay (can renegotiate with companies when signing new contract)
- Companies would not want to hire someone who constantly change jobs => less security, high possibility of unemployment.
- Have to constantly change environment (readapt, waste of time)
=> These are the ideas that I got from 5 minutes of brainstorming! Let’s start writing, it seems obvious now that we have more negatives for jumping jobs, so it is clear that we should agree to the above notion. (be very careful when using counter arguments, do NOT confuse yourself!)
It is believed that individuals nowadays should stick to the same type of employment throughout their life. In my opinion, i strongly agree with the above statement.
Admittedly, there are several reasons why some might consider the prospect of job hopping more appealing. It is a general fact that when a new contract is signed, candidates may renegotiate their salary which might theoreticaly result in a considerable income boost. However, many do not consider the fact that companies do not value applicants without a solid employment history. This is simply as most corporations look for employees who could contribute long term to cut down turnover rates as well as the time and money wasted on training new recruits. While exceptions may occur for individuals possessing extraordinary skills, the majority of people who change jobs a lot can be hit with unemployment in the long run.
Nevertheless, I believe that an individual staying in the same occupation would reap many benefits. Firstly, a longer tenure equals a higher chance of promotions. This is especially true when new recruits are hired, as new managerial positions would be vacant in order to meet the demands for leadership roles. These positions, would in turn be filled by people with experience, naturally for those who have been with the company for a long time. Secondly, sticking to the same job provides more job security. In times of an economic crisis, it would be more likely for companies to terminate new recruits to cut cost instead of skilled staff, since the latter could still provide a positive cashflow for their corporation.
All in all, while the prospect of rapid job switching may be considered the norm in recent years, I strongly believe that a person should stick to their respective field and career in order to gain the highest level of financial growth and security.
